Looking for something fun to do this festive season?
This workshop will give you the inspiration and tools you need to wrap your gifts this year with the planet in mind. There are plenty of ways to wrap your gifts more ethically (and save a few pennies along the way), whilst still making sure they look great under the tree.
Sustainability is on the rise, however there have never been so many wrapping papers on the market. Christmas can be seriously wasteful, with all of us wrapping countless gifts year on year, for the paper to be eagerly ripped off and thrown away once Christmas day arrives. Last year it was estimated that 108 million rolls of Christmas wrapping paper were thrown away by Brits. That’s crazy, but not surprising considering most wrapping papers you’ll find in the supermarket are destined for landfill. Even if they look like they can be recycled, they often can't as they’re regularly coated with plastic, glitter and foil or simply have sticky tape left on.
How will the afternoon run?
For the first part of the workshop we will go through the basics of sustainable wrapping, what you can & can’t use, and inspiration for the many ways you can wrap your gifts beautifully.
Once you’ve got some inspiration, we’ll get hands on and creative, exploring materials and testing out ideas.
You’ll then pick the style you’d like to go with, and get wrapping! Each of you will get a sustainable gift to wrap and take home for a friend or loved one. If you fancy bringing your Christmas gifts you can wrap these too (as long as they are a reasonable size!).
What’s included in my ticket price?
A glass of Prosecco
Tea/coffee from Café Smug
Festive nibbles (including mince pies, of course)
All the materials you’ll need
A sustainable gift for you to wrap and give to a friend or loved one
…and a Goodie bag full of wrapping supplies to take home!
What do I need to bring?
Nothing! But if you have any old fabric or paper that you’d like to use, please feel free to bring this along as well as any of your own gifts you’d like to wrap during the workshop.
